Shares Vision to Build Forerunners of Future
Salman Khurshid, Minister for Law and Justice and Minority Affairs, Government of India and his entourage of dignitaries visited DPS-STS School, Dhaka on May 26, 2012. He was accompanied by MPs of Indian Parliament, Dr Bhola Singh, Mr Adib and Mr Chang
During Mr Khurshid's visit to DPS-STS School Dhaka , Mr Khurshid was shown around the Dhaka DPS-STS School by the Principal and Vice Principal. He was impressed with the school's facilities and appreciated the management's efforts to uphold the standards of the school. In his inspiring speech to the teachers and students, he shared his memories as a DPS student and stated his vision to create6 individuals who would become influential forerunners of future nation builders.
Evaluating Performances at NSU
With a view to evaluate overall performances of the University and contribution-responsibilities of faculty members, the Vice Chancellor Dr Hafiz GA Siddiqi arranged a formal meeting on May 31, 2012 at NSU Conference Hall. All faculty members from different departments under four schools of NSU participated.
Professor Dr Md Abdus Sattar, Treasurer, NSU, Dr A T M Nurul Amin, Dean of SEAS, Dr A Hannan Chowdhury, Dean of SOB, Dr Atiqur Rahman, Dean of SASS, Dr Donald James Gomes, Dean of Life Sciences delivered speeches on different academic issues.
Dr Hafiz GA Siddiqi in his speech expressed a great satisfaction mentioning overall performance of the institution concerning scheduled classes and examinations which have been conducted smoothly within the time frame.
Other than academic works, co-curriculum activities were also held.
SPEED Youth's Fun under the Monsoon Sun Summer Programme
Speed Youth's Summer programme provides youth aged 9-18 years a creative, fun and safe environment where they can spend their summer discovering new talents and developing the skills needed to become healthy, competent, coping and contributing individuals. Young people need time to build talents, explore passions and sharpen thinking skills outside school, and SPEED Youth's programmes offer opportunities for youth of Dhaka City to do just that.
“Fun Under the Monsoon Sun” is a four-week programme organised every summer by SPEED Youth. The programme provides youth with the unique opportunity to engage in a number of different experiences, and spend a socially and physically intensive, as well as academically challenging, month. We make sure that kids get to learn and enjoy their summer in a unique learning environment.
This summer SPEED is offering activities ranging from soccer, basketball, photography, guitar, math and science, leadership development and lots more! The programme also includes a field trip to Fantasy Kingdom and a sleepover for the older youth. At the end of the programme there will be a graduation ceremony showcasing the skills learned throughout the summer and youth will receive completion certificates.
SPEED Youth's Summer Programme starts July 1 and ends July 26 and runs five days a week (Sunday- Thursday) from 9.00 am till 1.40pm. The programme is held in the Senior Section Uttara Campus of Scholastica.
IUB Observes World Environment Day
To observe the World Environment Day, the Environment Club of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised a two day fair on June 4-5, 2012 at its permanent campus at Bashundhara R/A Dhaka. Professor M Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB, inaugurated the fair. The slogan of the fair was 'Green Economy: Does it Include you?' The aim of the fair was to create awareness among youth about the concepts of reuse, reduce and recycle. Prior to the fair, there were also an essay and quiz competition on the same topic.
Seminar at DIU
The Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering and Department of Public Health of Daffodil International University organised a seminar on Sustainable Edible Oil for Bangladesh on May 19, 2012 at DIU Auditorium. Ghulam Muhammed Quader, MP, Minister, Ministry of Commerce, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Md Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Daffodil International University graced the occasion as special guest and Professor Dr Aminul Islam was present as the guest of honour. Keynote paper was presented by Professor Dr S M Keramot Ali, Head of the Public Health Department.
Dr Anwar Hossain joined as the Vice Chancellor of Southeast University

Professor Dr Anwar Hossain, a renowned educationist of international reputation has joined Southeast University as Vice Chancellor on May 28, 2012. President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and Chancellor of the Southeast University appointed Professor Hossain as the Vice Chancellor of the Southeast University for a period of four years from the date of his joining.
Dr Hossain started his service career in 1972 as an Assistant Professor in the Institute of Business Administration, Dhaka University. He was the pioneer who for the first time in 1987 designed and introduced the curriculum for BBA programme in Bangladesh. He was appointed as the Professor of Institute of Business Administration in 1991. He was also the Director of Institute of Business Administration, Dhaka University from 2001 to 2003. Dr Hossain has published more than forty research papers in local and international journals and recently received fellowship from World Business Institute based in Australia.
Freshers' Reception Spring
The Freshers' reception programme of spring 2012 was held on May 31 at the auditorium of Institute of Engineers Bangladesh. A A Kamruzzaman, Chairperson of Board of Trustees of UAP was the chief guest. Dr Jamilur Reza Chowdhury, Vice Chancellor of UAP presided over the function. Among the eminent guests Member of Board of Trustees Qayum Reza Chowdhury, Pro Vice Chancellor of UAP Professor Dr M R Kabir, Acting Registrar of UAP and other members were present at the programme.
Pledge Harbor School's view exchange in Sylhet
