If you are looking for one of the ultimate video gaming experiences then nothing beats a console. That's mainly because unlike a computer you don't have to upgrade it every few months to keep up with the demands of resource hungry new games. You need to do it every few years or so. It is still a drag but at least the interval is longer. Sony's Playstation has one of the widest game titles and when hooked up to a big screen TV its utopia for game freaks. Now that the PS3 is out, prices of PS2 are dropping though not to what it should be. You can get a set for 17000-18000 taka with one joy pad and a mod chip included. What's a mod chip? It allows you to play the pirated CDs that won't work otherwise. Of course, if you have relations abroad you can buy one for roughly 10000 taka. Available in most shops that sell computer games.
Ipod shuffle 512 MB
It's the simplest and the coolest looking MP3 player around. Also, it lasts unlike many other brands available in the market for pennies so to speak. It is battery powered and can be recharged by simply plugging into the computer USB port. You could hook it up in your car as well. The downside is that it has no display so you cannot really select your music just like that. A bigger downside is that it costs about 8000 taka here for the player with 512MB capacity.
New old phones
Spicing up the décor with a few items of classical design is a novel idea. These particular telephone sets help achieve that goal. These look exactly like the ancient rotary phones with the benefit of having digital circuitry and a simple push button operation. The price range is 700-3500 taka. The basic ones have simple wood grain designs and are small. The pricy ones are made of metal and plastic to look and feel like the old sets. It's a lot like the one in the picture. Downside is couples who fight too much may kill each other with it. It's available at Cyme Plus in Bashundhara City near the front entrance.
Nivea makes some neat products for skin care. You might want to check out a particular after-shave called Fresh Balsam. It's creamy when you pour it but does not leave any greasy residue. It helps to both cool and moisturize. Also it is lightly scented and priced about 300-320 taka. It's found in most departmental stores that stack up on grooming products.
Ramadan is here and that means a lot of piousness is in the air. To celebrate that you fast all day start off the iftaar with a cool refreshing drink to satiate your parched throat. Ice-cold juice adds the extra punch. If you go to the market a wide variety of drinks are available. You can have it in powdered form or liquid ready-to-pour-and-drink form. You can find it in bottles, jars and cartons. The ready mixed juices come in either one or two litre containers. As for the flavours, you can go wild. There's apple, blackcurrant, apple and blackcurrant together, orange, lime, too sweet strawberry, pineapple, red grapes, mango, mixed fruit and even tomato though why anyone would want the latter is beyond comprehension. Prices fall around the 100-200 taka mark.
Cookie scented eraser
Novelty erasers always go down well with children and a few grownups as well. At PQS in Lalmatia you will find these particular erasers that are shaped and ridiculously scented like chocolate cookies. You might want to bite into them. In fact, kids may actually do it. After all few kids, left unsupervised, will refrain from biting into nice smelling non-food items. At 52 taka per piece they are kind of expensive for erasers but cool nonetheless. Just sniff around the stationery section and you will find it.

Students of NIFD (National Institute of Fashion Design) will arrange an Eid Exhibition from the 24th to the 28th of October at Meghna, WVA Auditorium at Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
The program will be inaugurated by renowned fashion designer Bibi Russell on the 24th at 3:00 pm. The exhibition is going to run from 10:00 am to 9:00pm in the aforementioned dates.

With Ramadan in full flow , a lot of our eating and sleeping habits have been tampered with to no extents. Regulation -eight hours a night sleep (and more for some) are a thing nearly a fortnight past and distinctive meal times even more so. At a time when our body clock is taking a battering of sorts and trying its best to adjust here are a few things we can do to make the adaptability a little bit smoother.
A lot of people complain that Ramadan robs them of three meals a day and of course snacks at any time of the day. Just thinking that increases your hunger by almost ten folds and makes it that much harder to fast. But the thing is that even during Ramadan you are having three meals a day, just spaced differently. In other words your hours change but you still have three meals (iftar, sehri and dinner). Plus you end up eating more at each meal than what you would if you had lunch, dinner and breakfast. Maybe that is why so many people gain weight during this month. We all know about the power of autosuggestion. Convince your mind that you are having three meals. Your body will adapt to that much easier.
Go to bed early
This is probably the hardest advise to follow. Us ,Dhaka people, especially the ones that fall in the youth category, are mostly nocturnal creatures. Staying up at night is one of our favourite pastimes or habits that we indulge in. After all ,night time is the right time. I would agree except that following that pattern would leave you extremely sleep weary come the morrow. So go to bed early and get a good chunk of your sleep in before sehri. That way a short two hour nap after sehri and you will be fit and fine to face the world.
Have an open mind
If you think you can't- you probably cannot. Simple words it may be but it has a deep seated impact. If you think that you can't fast or adjust to the routine during Ramadan, its almost a certainty that you wont be able to. Its like being beaten even before you went out there to play the game. None of us want it. Its not a big deal, fasting. Try it. You would be surprised at its' benefits. And if nothing else, at least you know that you are adaptable.
