World Hunger Relief month

KFC and Pizza Hut, have for the third consecutive year, successfully completed the World Hunger Relief Campaign with the closing ceremony that was held on 14 November 2009, at the KFC outlet in Gulshan 1.The campaign, which is jointly organised by YUM! Brands and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), aims to raise wider awareness on hunger and support WFP in providing meals to poor children in schools across the country. This month-long campaign was launched on 14 October 2009.

All funds raised during the campaign have been donated directly to WFP food relief fund. In Bangladesh, Transcom Foods Limited, franchisee of KFC and Pizza Hut joined in the campaign and helped raise a significant amount this year. From the collective donations of their 8 restaurants all across the country, Transcom successfully raised a total of Tk1,01003.75, and the YUM! Foundation will make a matching contribution of the fund, thus raising a total of Tk.2 lac and 2000 thousand.

Akku Chowdhury, Executive Director, Transcom Foods Ltd., expressed immense pride in being associated in such a noble cause, as well as gratitude towards all their consumers who helped raise a significant amount more than last year, and hoped to continue to do even better in the future.

Also present at the event were John Aylieff, Country Representative, WFP and celebrated singer Mehreen.
