Write to Mita

Dear Mita,
I'm a student of Class 9. My problem is that I can't trust anyone, I hate everyone. I don't know why I'm like this. My parents are very rude to me and oppose everything I say. I'm not a good student and feel I'm not very talented either. I have no friends with whom I can share my dreams, joys and sorrows. If I ever want to tell my mother anything, she simply asks me to study, study and study. How can I be more free with her and how can I make some good, true friends?

Dear R,
You are being too harsh on yourself. It is difficult for me to understand how a student of Class 9 does not have any friends. You can deal with this in two ways. One is to continue in the way you are doing at present. The other is to tell yourself that you are no less talented than anyone else. Get motivated to do better and become a more pleasant person. You will start to make friends soon. As for your mother, continue to communicate with her. She is bound to respond soon.

Dear Mita,
I used to have a friend who helped me throughout my life. But I did not see him for a long time and he thought I was avoiding him when I wasn't really. He thinks I betrayed him and now he's avoiding me as well. I don't want to lose a true friend. Please help me win my friend back.

Dear MH,
Talk to your friend directly and explain the situation. Do not give up if he does not respond, keep on communicating. He will come around eventually. Perhaps he is hurt by your long absence and is getting even. If you persist long enough then he will surely understand your sincerity.

Dear Mita,
I am 26 and have recently graduated from a reputed public university. I have never been involved with a woman, emotionally or physically. I have been trying to convince a woman for the past nine years, but nothing came of it, and she recently married a policeman, though we continue to be friends over the phone as we used to. The people and the environment around me seem all about love and sex, but I have neither and that gets to me. It's not like I'm bad looking, though I'm a little underweight for my height. What should I do?

Dear AK,
Just relax and let things take their course. Getting into serious relationships is a natural part of growing up. You will experience it too when the time comes. It does not matter what is going on around you. The important thing is to be sure of what you want out of your life partner and actively cultivate such relationships. This is also an important stage of your life where you have to take career decisions. Get down to those. Lady love is around the corner, don't worry, things will be just fine.
