Dhaka University (DU) will announce tomorrow a Tk 164 crore budget for 2008-09 fiscal with a deficit of Tk 12 crore.

DU Treasurer Prof Syed Abul Kalam will place the budget at a two-day senate session at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building with Vice-chancellor Prof SMA Faiz in the chair.

Of the total budget, Tk 135.90 crore will be available from the University Grants Commission as government grant while the rest Tk 16.10 will be managed from the internal income of the university.

Sources said Tk 121 core will be spent for salary, pension and other allowances of teachers, officers and employees while only Tk 23.60 crore would be spent for academic sector.

No special allocations have been made for research and other academic purposes.

The proposed budget was placed in the finance committee of the university on June 17 and was approved by the DU syndicate on the same day.

The revised budget for 2007-08 fiscal will also be placed at the senate meeting.

The university's original budget for current fiscal was Tk 142.45 crore.
