Four die in Padma boat tragedy in Pabna

At least four people including a woman and a child drowned as a passenger boat capsized in the Padma at Char Raninagar of Nazirganj union in Sujanagar upazila Sunday night, police and locals said.

Locals recovered two bodies from the river. They were identified as Rubi Khatun,38, wife of Aziz Mollah of Borkhapur village and Yasmin, a five-month-old child of the same village.

Kulsum Begum and Hossan Ali of the same village are still missing, police quoted locals as saying.

The boat, carrying 17 passengers from Gaoutampur Ghat in Rajbari district capsized in mid-river when its bottom broke down, victims said. As the passengers shouted for help, locals rushed there and rescued 13 passengers.

Relatives gathered on the bank of the river in search of their near and dear ones.
