Zainul Festival begins at DU

A two-day Zainul Festival and Fair began on the Fine Arts Faculty premises at Dhaka University (DU) yesterday.

DU Vice Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique formally inaugurated the festival as the chief guest in the morning.

Faculty of Fine Arts organised the festival marking the 95th birthday anniversary of late artist Zainul Abedin, one of the founders of the faculty. Yesterday was the 95th birthday anniversary of Zainul Abedin.

The faculty also honoured two veteran artists -- KG Subramanyan of India and Safiuddin Ahmed of Bangladesh -- at the inaugural session for their contributions in the field of arts. They received crests and citation.

Prof Rafiqun Nabi, dean of the faculty, said alongside faculty students, folk artists have participated in the fair with their art works. He said they would celebrate Zainul's next birthday anniversaries amid such programmes.
