Shame on Bangladesh. They don't have anything better to do except changing names. I suggest the government looks into this more carefully by looking at other countries. Toronto Pearson Airport name after the prime minister, a liberal, Montreal trudeau airport, also named after another premier who was a conservative. The list goes on.

My question to this government: What is the benefit of changing names. If we see India, does anyone care about changing Indira Gandhi Airport. They are busy about economic development. We on the other hand are busy with removing names and begging for foreign aid from outside.

This is the craziness of crazy nation, that is why this nation would never prosper, because they never recognize the true hero of the nation.Zia was a true hero of the nation. There is more to come.

Asoka, alexander, akbar all ruled vast expanses of land for hundreds of years which does not exibit much to their worth now except a few crumbling columns and stupas...what does our prime-ministers and candidate PMs hope to wipe off from the wall of history?

It is very ironic, our politician could not understand real norm of politics for the sake of their personal anger and Zelous attitudes. If we look into the politics of our neibouring countrylike INDIA, we never find this kind of destructive polices of politics. Our current addministration must stop this activities changing names with their personal motives. This must be stopped rather do work for building the nation.

Is our PM giving the money from her own funds which will cost 1400 crores. Who has given authority to the Govt to spend people's money on unproductive ventures.

It is not simply right and wise decision after so many years and this government will realize it in near future.

This is absolutely ridiculous and does not make any sense at all. After all these years, all of a sudden, current government decided to withdraw the name of the establishment of previous president Ziaur Rahman. Current government should erect another airport as proposed in Gazipur that can be named after Bangabandhu and justified our prime ministers lesson to the opposition leader in the name of renaming the airport. In such an advance age of 21st century where developing countries like Bangladesh are trying to cope up with global recession, climate change and facing natural disasters, like earthquake and severe storms, the government and its policy makers are busy changing the name of such landmark of the country. We must start a culture not to put anybody's name in any kind of government establishment in future, as such, within thirty nine years of our independence, most of the landmark buildings have already been finalized the named after all of our ex-politicians. So lets start with a concrete resolution that going forward no landmarks name will be after any politician. Hence we would be able to avert this types of controvarsary of naming and renaming.

What a joke. Abysmal poverty & unemployment, laughable infrastructure, pollution of all major rivers, and you make renaming the airport a priority?

Government can change the name of all establishments that names were changed during last BNP rule but not the ZIA as it had been named over 30 years ago and Ziaur Rahaman was also an elected presendent of the countrty apart from other roles he had played including multy parties democracy and many more.

However, it is the people to read and remember and respect , that is inner feeling of human instince that cannot be imposed by the Gopvernment and other external sources.

People oriented and supporterd contributions of all respected leaders , who had contributed for national development, fullfilled peoples inspiration , should be rerspected for their well recognised contribution and to look as a national leader but not in the line with party politics .

However, the Honarable Priminster has decided based on her judgement and we had expected more magnaminity and broad based outlook for such small issue .

Bengali people have many good qualities and bad mentalilites. Changing name of Ziaur Rahman was necessary but it was not urgent. It lost 1400 Crore Taka of poor people's money.

Civil Aviation sources, who control the operation of the airport, have been quoted by a pro-government vernacular daily to have said that the entire name changing process would cost Taka 1400 crore.

The sad part about the episode is that the name would certainly reappear once the BNP comes back to power. And the practice of naming and changing names is not only making the nation a laughing stock to foreigners but also involve, crores of Taka of money of the people 40 per cent of whom are poor living on less than one Dollar a day.

It's time that the political leaders give up intolerance and attitude of vengeance to keep the state functioning smoothly and ensure rapid economic development by restoring confidence in the minds of investors.

Why in Bengali only? The name should be both in Bengali and English because it is an international airport.

In addition, I do not support government's decision to change the name of this airport. They could have built a new airport and name it according to their choice.

Will the service of Biman or the airport improve with the change of name? There are more economic issues than personal/political issues to be solved. Shame on the politicians, who is paving the way of conflict instead of country's development!

I don't agree this will get preference to other important issues like law and order, power and gas, traffic jams etc, which are pretty much related to public. Who cares it is Zia or Shahjalal if immigration or security of the airport is in order? So I think doing these types of works they will loose the public support.
