EU shocked by killings at border

The killing of Bangladesh civilians on the border by the Indian Border Security Force is shocking and should be strongly addressed, Jean Lambert of European Parliament said yesterday.

She made the remarks while replying to queries at a press conference in Dhaka yesterday.

“This is going on for a considerable period,” she said adding that the matter would be raised in the European Parliament and with the Indian ambassador in Brussels, the de facto capital of the European Union. It will also be taken up with the European delegation visiting India.

Lambert is the leader of a seven-member delegation of the European Parliament for Relations with South Asia that came to Dhaka on a five-day visit on February 19.

Without mentioning the BSF chief's name, she said the comments that the killing is inevitable were outrageous in terms of human rights.

European Union Ambassador in Dhaka William Hana was present at the press conference.

It is a strange news. The EU leaders are shocked at the killing of Bangladeshis at the border. To them it is a violation of human rights. But unfortunately, the government of Bangladesh is not shocked by it at all. Even a minister made an unkind remark about it. Bangladesh government may not be shocked at all but all Bangladeshis are.

Yes, India should stop killing on the borders. But Bangladeshis will conveniently not acknowledge that their people should stop trying to cross the border illegally. Bangladesh has to accept their share of responsibility on this issue.

Bravo Jean Lambert! We salute you, I hope you will halt these border killings by India which claims to be world's biggest democracy which is world's biggest lie since no true democratic nation would allow such murders by its security apparatus. I hope EU will stop all trade talks with India until it stops all border deaths and other illegal activities against Bangladesh.

We are truly grateful to Jean Lambert of European Parliament if you can stop these border deaths by India as you have rightly said that these deaths are gross violation of human rights. Please stop India and you can halt them by blocking export of arms to India and also inserting conditions on the current trade talks after all I am sure EU citizens would not like to buy anything made in India when its soldiers have been murdering people like flies.

Although you are shocked, our government closes its eyes so as not to realize this situation, because it's India.
