Jamil in quarters

Jamil Bhuiyan of Bangladesh battled his way through to the quarterfinals of the Focal Point 26th Bangladesh ITF Junior Tennis Championships at the National Tennis Complex in Ramna yesterday. Jamil remains the only Bangladeshi player left in the championships as the two female competitors lost their second round matches yesterday.

Unseeded Jamil had a difficult match against eighth-seeded Sahil Gaware of India and went down 4-6 in the first set before taking the second set 7-6 in tie-breaker and wrapping up the match by taking the third set 6-3. Top seed Fancutt of Australia had a 6-4, 6-4 win over Kim of Korea while Rebello and Ashok of India, Lee Ho Jun of Taipei, Al Obaidly of Kuwait, Juprang of Thailand and Seonggyu of Korea were the others making it to the quarterfinals.

In the girls' section, Eshita Afroz of Bangladesh lost against ANG Geraldine of Singapore 0-6, 2-6 while Sharmin Alam Sharda lost against Yu-Ting of Taipei 3-6, 1-6. Top seed Ma Ka Man Carina of Taipei, compatriots WU Fang-Hsien and Fang-Hsien and Vaidya Ria of Singapore were the others making it through to the quarterfinals.
