“Shutarang”, a solo photography exhibition featuring images by Salma Ahmed, is now on at Drik Gallery in Dhanmondi. The photographs highlight some deeply personal moments in the life of the recently deceased eminent film director Subhash Dutta.
Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, Vice -Chancellor of Dhaka University, inaugurated the exhibition as chief guest, while Pijush Bandyopadhyay, director general of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC),10 was present as special guest. Among others, film directors, producers and cultural personalities as well as Dutta's family members were present on the occasion.
Subhash Dutta was slated to inaugurate the exhibition but he died three days before the launch of the show.
Salma Ahmed, a private university teacher, has captured the images since 2007. The exhibition features around 200 photographs in 121 frames, including 90 single photos of Dutta.
“As a Dutta enthusiast, I have been photographing him for a long time. He was simple, congenial and gentle by nature. I visited his house many times to capture significant moments in the director's life, where he lived, wrote and engaged himself in different activities. I believe that my images will give you a new perspective on Subhash Dutta,” said the photographer.
Such moments in Dutta's daily life as reading, resting, walking, shopping, meeting with people and others feature in the images. Besides, some photographs collected from Dutta's personal collection are also exhibited. These depict scenes where Dutta works on the sets of different films.
The exhibition will continue till November 26.
