In a powerful show of protest against the recent deaths in an Ashulia garment factory fire, 111 persons wearing shrouds to resemble corpses lied down before BGMEA Bhaban in the capital's Karwan Bazar yesterday.

Others at the “Shob Shomabesh” (rally of dead bodies) held placards which read “Business cannot mean murder” and “Cheap labour does not mean cheap life”.

The silent and unique protest was organised by a grassroots level movement of activists, journalists, friends and people who call themselves Magic Movement.

The aim was to highlight the failure and unwillingness of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and garment factory owners to ensure workers' safety.

Bravo! Nothing is more important than life - no matter where that life happens to be. Thank you for having the courage to stand up to this inhumanity created by greed of local and multi-national businesses like Tazreen and Walmart.
