Gunmen shot dead two activists of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) in Fatikchhari upazila of Chittagong yesterday.
The deceased are 25-year-old Kripasukh Chakma alias Saikat, of Suknachhari area, and 32-year-old Debabrata Chakma, of Laxmichhari.
Quoting locals, MS Sobur, officer-in-charge of Fatikchhari Police Station, said armed criminals opened fire on Saikat and Debabrata around 12:30pm on their way back from Kanchan Nagar bazar area, leaving them dead.
However, Dhiman Chakma, convener of PCJSS Laxmichhari upazila unit, blamed the armed cadres of United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) for the killing of their activists. The victims went there for a party purpose.
Denying the murder allegation, Niran Chakma, press and information secretary of UPDF, blamed the internal conflict of PCJSS for the double murder.
Police recovered the bullet-hit bodies from Kanchan Nagar, about 20 kilometers from the police station, the OC said, adding that the bodies are about to be sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
