As many as 6,077 Jamaat-Shibir and BNP men have been sued on charges of attack on policemen and torching a cotton-laden truck in Pabna and Bogra on Wednesday.
Our Pabna correspondent reported that Sub-inspector Fazle Elahi of Pabna Sadar Police Station filed a case against 6,000 Jamaat-Shibir and BNP activists with the police station concerned following a series of clashes between police and the opposition activists at different points on Dhaka-Pabna highway on Wednesday night.
Of the accused, 77 are identified while the rest unnamed.
In the case statement, the complainant stated that over 6,000 Jamaat-Shibir and BNP men put up barricades at Jafrabad, Bangabari, Goyeshpur, Modhupur and Pushpopara points on Dhaka-Pabna highway under Sadar upazila and clashed with the law enforcers for two hours from 6:30pm.
At least 10 people, including three cops, were injured in the clashes, the complainant added.
The injured cops are Officer-in-charge (Investigation) Nur-e- Alam, Sub-inspectors Mohammad Mahfuz and Tarikul Islam of Sadar Police Station. OC Nur-e- Alam and SI Mahfuz were admitted to Pabna general Hospital while SI Mahfuz was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.
During hartal enforced by Jamaat on the day, AL men vandalised Jamaat Pabna district office in the town. Protesting the attack, the Jamaat-Shibir activists put up barricades on the highway.
As police went to the spots to remove the barricades, Jamaat-Shibir activists with the help of local BNP swooped on the law enforcers, SI Fazle Elahi stated in the case statement.
In Bogra, 77 Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists were sued on charge of setting a cotton-laden truck afire in the town during Wednesday's hartal enforced by Jamaat in Rajshahi division, according to a correspondent.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Mir Raihan lodged the case with Sadar Police Station at around 8:00pm, accusing 26 Jamaat-Shibir men including Bogra town unit Ameer Rafiqul Islam. The remaining 51 accused are unidentified.
