BNP, allies sit to decide on fresh agitation

The BNP standing committee last night decided to declare fresh agitation programmes including mass demonstration and human chain to pile up pressure on the government for restoration of the caretaker government system.

The decision will be finalised today at a meeting of 18-party alliance leaders, with BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the chair, said BNP leaders after the standing committee meeting at Khaleda's Gulshan office.

The committee reiterated that hartal will be enforced if the government hikes the prices of electricity, gas and water.

Khaleda on December 26 had declared that her party will enforce shutdown and blockade if energy prices go up.

Please be sensible and leave all street agitation behind as it is harmful to our economy and Bangladesh name. We can have all these peaceful agitation near to the election.

Enough is enough; we do not need anymore agitation please. Caretaker Government is history. It is impossible to make constitutional amendments every few months, BNP and its allies chose street fights during constitutional amendments. We’re just looking for a fair general election.

It is time now to come to your senses. Go to parliament if you have to say something. Give people your formula. Nobody is interested in your agitation program. Everybody knows that you are forcing people to hartal by burning buses and killing people.
