Bangladeshi and Indian poets congregate in Dhaka

As part of the celebration of International Mother Language Day, Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, High Commission of India, Dhaka in collaboration with Jatiya Kabita Parishad Bangladesh recently organised a get-together and recitation programme, titled “Bangladesh-India Kabita-bashor”, at the RC Majumder Auditorium on Dhaka University campus.

At the programme, renowned poets from Bangladesh and Paschimbanga (India) showcased the magnificence of Bangla language. About fifty poets from the two countries took part in the programme.

Noted Bangladeshi poet and writer Syed Shamsul Haq inaugurated the programme as chief guest. He greeted everyone at the programme on behalf of Jatiya Kabita Parishad and talked about the power of language.

Abhijit Chattopadhyay, Second Secretary (Press, Information and Culture) of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, delivered the welcome speech at the programme.

Elocutionists Dahlia Ahmed and Shahdat Hossain Nipu recited poems of Rabindranath Tagore and Sunil Gangopadhyay at the programme. Poets also recited their favourite poems.

Bangladeshi poets -- Syed Shamsul Haq, Rafiq Azad, Mahadev Saha, Nirmalendu Goon, Anwara Syed Haq, Habibullah Sirajee, Mohammed Nurul Huda, Asim Saha, Makid Haider, Kazi Rozy, Shihab Sarker, Dilara Hafiz, Muhammad Samad, Aslam Sani, Tarik Sujat, Shahnaz Munni and others attended the programme.

Indian poets -- Ashis Sanyal, Uttam Das, Piyush Raut, Mrinal Basu Chowdhury, Swapan Sengupta, Pankaj Saha, Subodh Sarker, Amrita Maity, Dr Mujib Swadeshi, Apurba Dutta, Bithi Chattopadhyay, Chaitali Chattopadhyay, Pinaki Thakur, Shibashis Mukherjee, Dr Biswajit Chattopadhyay, Sutapa Sengupta, Alok Bandopadhyay, Sadek Ali, Sakil Ahmed and Subrata Bandyopadhyay -- took part in the event.
