It is encouraging to find that anti-tobacco activists of the country have installed a 'Death Clock' on an important road near the prime minister's residence to get lawmakers' support to pass the proposed amendment to the Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage Act in the parliament's upcoming winter session.

The adverse impacts of smoking and intake of tobacco in other forms are known to all. According to newspaper reports, over Tk 4,000 crore revenue is coming from the tobacco sector but over Tk 12,000 crore is being spent to treat various diseases due to tobacco usage.

We sincerely hope that our esteemed lawmakers will pass the proposed amendment of the tobacco law for the greater welfare of people.
