School chess

India's Suvradeepta Das maintained his solo lead in Group A of the 13th Standard Chartered School Chess Championship at the close of the seventh round at the National Sports Council Tower yesterday.

Suvraddepta defeated Akib Jawad of Chittagong to secure full seven points from as many matches. Shohel Hawlader of Rangamati Abdul Ali Academy was in second position with six points while Akib, Ayon Noor Newas and Nepalese player Projapati Raj shared the third position with 5.5 points each.

The officials of Bangladesh Chess Federation and players observed a three-minute silence in demand of the death penalty of all war criminals by suspending the matches for a few minutes, said a press release yesterday.
