The publication cere-mony of a book titled 'Kanak and her paintings', by Kanak Chapa Chakma, was held at the Jatiya Press Club in the city yesterday.

Speakers at the ceremony said the writer through her book has portrayed the natural beauty, lives and liveli-hood of the indigenous people, their festivity, rich culture and struggle.

They also said the forms and structures of Kanak's paintings had a spellbinding effect on the spectators while the theme of her paintings create scope for thinking.

Foreign Minister Dipu Moni was present as the chief guest at the ceremony organised by Mowla Brothers, the publisher of the book.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said her paintings tell of the rich culture and beauty of the indigenous community.

Kanak's paintings are mesmerising, she added.

Poet and researcher Dr. Mustafa Majid edited the book.

Presided over by noted artist Professor Rafiqun Nabi, dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University, the ceremony was also addressed by Kanak Chapa Chakma, Murshid Kuli Khan, deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank, Rabiul Hussain, poet and architect and Ahmed Mahmudul Haque, director of Mowla Brothers.
