12 firearms recovered from PBCP cadre

A large number of arms and ammunition were recovered from Jiudhara village in Morelganj upazila in Bagerhat district on Friday.According to Bagerhat police superintendent, the recovered arms are eight SBL guns, one 303 rifle, three shutter guns, 120 gun cartridges and 40 rifle bullets. Yusuf Ali Khan, Officer-in-charge of Morelganj thana, assisted by SI Abdul Khaleque and ten constables raided the house of Abdul Barik Akhand at Sutalari village and arrested his son Lulu Akhand, allegedly a cadre of outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP). As per Lulu's confession police recovered the arms and ammunition from Jiudhara village adjacent to Sunderbans A case has been lodged with Morelganj thana. A DB team of Khulna Metropolitan Police has gone to Morelganj to check if the recovered 303 rifle and 40 bullets are among those looted earlier from Daulatpur Jute Mill store at Khalishpur. They will also check if the recovered eight guns are among the 12 guns looted in 1998 by PBCP armed cadres from Shiromoni Cable Factory in Khulna. It may be mentioned here that Swarankhola police in Bagerhat on May 26 recovered one six-shooter, three guns, one revolver, six pistols, two pipeguns and 22 gun cartridges from terrorists Noor Akhand and Wahab Akand of Dhanshagar.
