The Russian Cultural Centre and Embassy of the Russian Federation jointly held an essay-writing competition recently for all school-college students in Bangladesh on Russia's Northern Capital St. Petersburg: 300 years of Glorious History. Students from all over the country sent their write-ups up to the mid-April of this year. On May 27 the Russian Cultural Centre organised the prize-giving ceremony of the competition.Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Bangladesh N. G. Shevchenko, President of Bangladesh-Russia Friendship Association Justice K. M. Sobhan, Director of the Russian Cultural Centre Fyodor A. Rozovskiy attended the function. A total of 70 competitors from ten districts participated in the contest. The Ambassador to Bangladesh handed out certificates and CDs to the winners. Tamanna-E-Jannat, a student of Munsibagh Alim Madrassa, Narayanganj, won the first prize. The second place was secured by Pushpita Saha of Radiant International School, Dhanmondi, while the third place went to Saima Akhter of Lakshmi Narayan Cotton Mills High School, Naraynganj. Class IX student Noor Shafayat of Dhaka Residential Model College was awarded a special prize for writing an informative essay on the selected topic. A documentary on St. Petersburg followed the prize giving ceremony.
