DU Senate polls: Vote counting begins today

Counting of votes in the election of the registered graduate representatives in Dhaka University Senate begins today.

Last round of polls was held yesterday at the TSC and Gymnasium centres where a total of 10,322 voters cast their votes. Earlier, 14,869 voters cast their votes in 36 centres across the country.

Ganatantrik Oikya Parishad (GOP), opposition Awami League backed panel, alleged that two pro-BNP-Jamaat teachers violated the election code of conduct by helping in issuing duplicate voter cards.

This correspondent found that the said teachers were helping the officials at Registrar's Building for issuing duplicate cards.

GOP leaders further alleged that the two teachers also attested the voter's picture without verifying the person.

Earlier, DU authorities said about 650 cards were returned but they issued about 2,500 duplicate voter cards till yesterday.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Yusuf Haider denied the allegations and said the election was held peacefully.
