Khaleda tells expatriates

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia said here yesterday that the government had taken some specific steps, including establishment of a separate ministry for the welfare of the expatriates to ensure the contribution of non-resident Bangladeshis to nation building activities.She was talking to the members of Saudi Arabia and Japan branches of BNP when they called on her separately at her 30, Hare Road office in the evening. This is for the first time during the present tenure that the prime minister used her Hare Road office in the evening. During BNP's period from 1991 to 1995 Khaleda Zia regularly used Hare Road as her evening office. The prime minister advised the expatriate Bangladeshis to work unitedly for their own welfare and contribute to the development of the nation. They BNP leaders said the establishment of overseas Employment and Expatriate Welfare Ministry was the long standing demand of the non-resident Bangladeshis. Leaders of the Saudi Arabia BNP delegation apprised her of their organisational activities, taken up for strengthening the party there and ensuring the welfare of expatriate Bangladeshis. The prime minister called upon the leaders of the Japan chapter of BNP to help attract investment for the country and boost the present process of attaining national economic development. While detailing out the government's measures for welfare of the expatriates she said introduction of dollar bonds for the expatriates would immensely contribute to their efforts in the nation building activities. The Saudi BNP delegation was led by president Abdul Gani and general secretary Enamul Huq while the Japan Chapter of BNP delegation was headed by its president Sheikh Wadir Ahmed and General Secretary Khan Manirul Mani. BNP Secretary General and LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan and Political Secretary to the Prime Minister Mosaddque Ali were present on the occasion.
