Sutrapur double murder convict surrenders

A convict in the Sutrapur double murder case surrendered to the court yesterday.

The convict, Mohammad Mintu, was tried in absentia and awarded the death penalty.

Shahed Noor Uddin, judge of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1, Dhaka Division, ordered that the convict be sent to Dhaka Central Jail, after he voluntarily surrendered to the court for bail at 10:30am.

Mintu appeared before the court along with his lawyers and prayed for bail.

Special Public Prosecutor Abdul Latif Talukder opposed the bail prayer.

Mintu and 15 others including Rahid Hasan Sumon, son of Nasibun Ahmed, president of the city Mahila Awami League, were given the death penalty in the double murder case on May 14.
