Nazrul's birth anniversary at Trishal

Mymensingh, May 30: People of Mymensingh have enjoyed highly the three-day tong programme on the occasion of the 104th birth anniversary of poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at Darirampur in Trishal upazila here. Ministry for Cultural Affairs and local district administration jointly organized the three-day long Nazrul's celebration from May 25 to May 27 as part of national level programme at Darirampur where Nazrul Islam spent some days of his boyhood.The programmes included discussion on life and works of poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, recitations from the works of the poet, cultural shows performed by various cultural groups from Mymensingh region and Dhaka. Different socio-cultural organizations also observed the birth anniversary of the poet as their near and dear once through a large number of programmes across the district. Eminent Nazrul Sangeet artistes, Khaled Hossain, MA Mannan, Yakub Ali Khan, Ferdous Ara, Subarna Kazi, a member of Nazrul's family, Dilbahar, Nadia Ferdous Shefali, Ferdous Parvin, film artiste Anwar Hossain, painter Syed Lutful Haque, among others, attended the function. Various drama organizations including Bahurupi Nattya Goshthi, Dukhu Miah Natya Sangha, Shuktara Sangha, Kaladhani Sangha draw a huge audience everyday. The Kabi Priya (Kabi's beloved), a dance drama on the life of the poet, enthralled the audience a lot. Local Bahurupi Nattya Goshthi performed the dance drama. Local Udhichi Shilpi Goshthi, Alokmoya Naha Sangeet Bidhalaya, jointly chalked out a two-day long programme marking the birth anniversary of poet Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam on May 26 and 27 at the auditorium of Udhichi in the district town. About 50 poets also gathered at Darirampur from Mymensingh region with poet Samsul Fayez in the chair on May 27 morning. People in their hundreds also rushed to the Nazrul Fair and Book Fair arranged on the occasion of poet's 104th birth anniversary. Following a nor'wester the evening programmes of the concluding day were hampered. Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia inaugurated the national level programme on May 25 afternoon with Begum Selima Rahman, State Minister for Cultural Affairs in the chair. Md Safiqul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Mymensingh, presided the concluding session.
