Suraiya sets new mark

The national shooting championship concluded at the Gulshan Shooting Club yesterday.On the last day of the competition, which began on June 25, only one event was decided with Sabrina Sultana clinching gold in the 50-metre air rifle three position. It was Sabrina's second gold of the meet. The leading marksman of the competition was Towfikur Rahman Alo who got three golds, all in pistol events. However, Suraiya Akhter of Narayanganj Rifle Club was the star of the show. She set a new national record in the air rifle event with a score of 391 on the opening day. Suraiya was the only Bangladesh shooter who could cross the 388-point qualifying mark during the world championship in Germany's capital Munich last month where she had recorded her previous best 389.
