He said top priority has been given to education followed by health sector.

Mayor Mohiuddin said the CCC has taken up 12 projects at a cost of Tk 5,670 crore depending on the commitments of foreign investors.

"These projects are aimed at accelerating the development of the port city and these can be implemented without the financial assistance of the government," he added.

The city mayor informed the journalists that the CCC has taken up a Tk 10 crore project to put an end to water-logging, a chronic problem for the 37-lakh city dwellers over the years.

He admitted that due to multi-faced limitations, sufficient funds could not be allocated to the other sectors like development of city roads.

The mayor also announced a Tk 120.50 crore revised budget for the year 2002-03 at the CCC auditorium yesterday morning.

Top officials of the corporation and ward commissioners were present on the occasion.
