33 chargesheeted in AL leader Uday Sankar abduction case


Thirty-four people including four Union Parishad (UP) chairmen have been chargesheated in the Awami League leader Uday Shankar Das abduction case.

The Awami League (AL) leader was abducted allegedly by outlaws of New Biplobi Communist Party (NBCP) on the night of May 29 last year from his house at Kalikapur village in Dumuria upazilla.

As his family did not lodge any complaint fearing reprisal by the abductors, the then officer-in-charge of Dumuria thana lodged a case as the complainant on October 31 last year. Uday is missing since then.

Four FIR-named accused have been exempted from the charge sheet, submitted to court by the IO on June 19. The court accepted the charge sheet on June 29.

The chargesheated accused are four UP chairmen, two UP members and 28 armed cadres of NBCP, including its ringleaders Monoranjan Biswas alias Mrinal and Shailendre Nath Biswas.

Thirty-three of the charges-heated accused are absconding while only one--Swapan Das--is in jail custody.
