Cancellation of SQ Chowdhury's nomination demanded

Bangladesh Jatiya Olama Mashaikh Oaikya Jote yesterday demanded cancellation of nomination of Salauddin Quader Chowdhury to the post of OIC secretary general.

They urged the government to nominate an Islamic scholar for the post of secretary general of Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC).

Speaking at a rally at the north gate of Baitul Mukarram Mosque, they also called on the government not to send Bangladeshi soldiers to Iraq.

The Jote staged the rally and took out a procession in the city to press for its various demands.

The other demands include cancellation of liquor licences and withdrawal of taxes on essentials.

Jote Secretary General Mufti Maulana Abdul Halim Siraji, Hafez Maulana Saiful Islam Jalali and Maulana Khaja Arifur Rahman Taheri spoke at the rally.
