Police action on SCF rally in Ctg: 5 arrested

Police yesterday prevented Samajtantrik Chhatra Front (SCF) from holding a rally at New Market intersection and charged baton to disperse them. Police also arrested five SCF leaders including city unit president and general secretary. At least five SCF leaders and activists were injured during police action. The arrested are SCF city unit president Adnan Habib, vice president Sanjoy Ghosh, general secretary Fakhruddin Kabir Atique, central committee member Abu Sayeed Sohel and city committee member Masud Khan Munna. Witnesses said police swooped on SCF leaders and activists when they were taking preparation to hold a rally and bring out procession according to scheduled programme to press home its 8-point demand. Kotwali police said the student leaders were arrested for attempt to hold rally and bring out procession on the streets without prior permission.
