Match factory staff burnt to death

A female employee of a match factory was burnt to death and another injured in a fire at the factory premises at Karimullahbagh in Shyampur yesterday.

Fire brigade personnel recovered charred body of Shahida Begum, 30, wife of Khokon Mia from the first floor of RK Match Factory. Her body was handed over to the Shyampur Police Station. It was later sent to Mitford hospital for autopsy.

Yusuf, the injured factory employee, was rescued and sent to hospital for treatment.

The fire originated from a first floor spark of gunpowder blowing up the factory rooms at around 3:00am, fire brigade sources said.

After one hour and forty-five minutes of hectic efforts, four fire-fighting units from Postagola doused the fire.
