Trading several hundred rounds of bullets, the cadres of Osman 'Bahini', a sub-group of infamous Kashem 'Bahini', fended off the police raid for four hours. Six of them are believed to have been injured, and police only could recover two firearms and some ammunition from the spot.

Police and witnesses said the Osman Bahini men started to gather at Hanchibari of Rangamatia upazila at around 9:30pm for some purpose when police, on a tip-off, tried to net them. The criminals opened fire indiscriminately, forcing police on the back foot.

The gunfight went on till 2:00pm.

A huge cache of illegal fire-arms including one highly sophisticated M-16 riffle and one AK-47 assault rifle with plenty of ammunition were recovered from the notorious Osman 'Bahini' during the Operation Clean Heart against criminals on October 31 last year.

But, the gang leader Osman could not be arrested.
