Myanmar FM arrives tomorrow

Myanmar Foreign Minister Uwin Aung arrives in Dhaka tomorrow carrying a letter of the Myanmar head of the government for Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

"He is carrying a letter of the head of the government of Myanmar and he will hand it over to the prime minister," Foreign Secretary Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury told reporters at a weekly press briefing yesterday.

The Myanmar FM will leave Dhaka on Monday.

It could not be ascertained whether the Myanmar FM's visit is in anyway linked with Aung San Suu Kyi whose fresh detention by the Myanmar authorities triggered uproar by the international community.

The foreign secretary said the process of repatriation of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar has been stepped up and hoped that all the remaining refugees would be voluntarily going back through close cooperation among Bangladesh, Myanmar and the UNHCR.
