Cousin castigates SQ Chowdhury

Awami League (AL) lawmaker ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury yesterday flayed Prime Minister's Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Salauddin Quader Chowdhury at a press briefing at the Sangsad Bhaban, alleging that he was carrying out criminal activities from his Rauzan residence, built on graves of children.

Fazle Karim, the first cousin of Salauddin, said the document of the land on which the residence was built was a children's graveyard.

"He is the secretary general candidate of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and an advocate of Islamic values, but he did not hesitate to put up the house there."

He claimed that he knew Salauddin better than anyone, as he lived 41 years with him.

"If I have to dwell on his past, I can say he joined all the political parties and will join others if there is any," he added.

About Salauddin's claim that the members of Fazle Karim's family used his name for fame, he said: "My father Fazlur Kabir Chowdhury was the leader of the opposition in the East Pakistan assembly and he looked after the family of Salauddin's father Fazlul Quader Chowdhury."

Deputy Leader of the Opposition Abdul Hamid said the alliance government was governing Bangladesh, making parliament infective.

He alleged that Bangladesh Nationalist Party legislators used invective against Leader of the Opposition Sheikh Hasina with an ulterior motive to keep the opposition out of the Jatiya Sangsad.

Hamid said the speaker allowed the question time for two hours in a breach of the Rules of Procedure. "It's farce, shame and a matter of great regret."

He said the Awami League joined parliament to air people's grievances, but they were robbed of their voice.
