Son-in-law gets life for killing 6 of a family

The Speedy Trial Tribunal in Rajshahi yesterday sentenced one person to death for killing six members of a family at Chhoto Banogram. The convict, Shafiqur Rahman alias Tuhin, was the son-in-law of the family. According to the prosecution, on June 25 last year, Tuhin, son-in-law of Jamir Uddin, poisoned the family members with doctored sweetmeats at Amruna, Chapainawab-ganj. As they fell unconscious, Tuhin strangled them. The victims are his mother-in-law, Mustari Begum, 50, brother-in-law Sabbir, 28, Sabbir's wife Maya, 22, sister-in-law Zakia alias Putul, 22, Putul's daughter Urmily, 3, and brother-in-law Sagar, 8. Tuhin divorced his second wife Hosneara for dowry. She filed a criminal case against Tuhin, his first wife Shirin, Tuhin's brother Robin and his brother-in-law Shahin.
