CityCell Digital yesterday sliced off the call tariff for its subscribers and promised to reduce it further shortly.CityCell has introduced a new post-paid package "Amar Phone" with call charges as low as Tk 0.75 per minute, read a statement of the Pacific Bangladesh Telecom Limited (PBTL), a mobile phone service provider. The announcement followed the slashing of call charges by leading cell phone operator GrameenPhone. "This is so far the lowest mobile cell charge in the country. This rate is applicable even for nationwide calls," the statement added. "Since the mobile phone users have now outnumbered the land phone users, we thought it was the right time to launch a product which can enable people to communicate with all mobile phone users at a very reasonable cost," PBTL Managing Director Faisal Morshed Khan said at a meeting of dealers and distributors of CityCell. Khan said the users of other packages of CityCell would also find something very attractive very soon. PBTL, the first company to introduce mobile telephony in the subcontinent, currently has some 2 lakh subscribers coverage in 50 districts. "Amar Phone" is a post-paid mobile-to-mobile package. The per minute call charge is Tk 3 at peak hours, Tk 1.50 at off-peak hours and Tk 0.75 during super off-peak hours from 11:00pm to 8:00am. Subscribers can select one number under the existing "One2One" scheme without any additional charges and make call to that particular number at 50 per cent of the actual rate. One2One call charges will be Tk 1.5 during the peak hours and Tk 0.75 at off-peak hours. "Amar Phone gives people the comfort of enjoying one rate irrespective of the zone or operator they are calling to," the statement added. CityCell covers Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, Khulna, Barisal and Rajshahi. CityCell introduced prepaid service with BTTB connectivity last year, which has created great enthusiasm among cell phone users.
