Ricky Ponting wants his world champion team to show more respect for the basics of one-day cricket when Australia take on Bangladesh in the first match of the one-day cricket series here on Saturday. Bangladesh haven't got close to Australia in three previous one-day matches but Ponting doesn't want his team taking shortcuts or clocking off early as they did in the Caribbean earlier this year. He reminded his players on Friday of their sloppy attitude in losing three matches in a row at the end of the West Indies tour. "That hurt a little bit," Ponting said of the 4-3 series win over the West Indies. "I was particularly disappointed with the way we played those last three games and that was one thing we addressed this morning in the team meeting. "We made mistakes in those three games that you haven't seen this team make for a long time. "We didn't respect the basics of the game and if you don't do that in one-day cricket it's going to come back and bite you every time. "We dropped a lot of catches we didn't have batting partnerships, there were a lot of misfields, those sort of things. "Looking back we felt we'd let ourselves down big time." Ponting said while Bangladesh improved in the Test series, the tourists could be tested in the one-day arena. He said the likes of in-form opener Hannan Sarker, whose patient attitude typified the effort of the Bangladeshis in the Cairns Test, would need to play differently. "He (Hannan) played Brett Lee as well as any top-class batsman in the past couple of years. "He left anything that was short and if it was fuller he drove it through the covers. "But it won't be easy to take that into the one-dayers. He played at his own pace in the Test and left a lot of balls -- in the shorter version of the game he'll have to come at us a bit more... if our bowlers can be patient and make them come at us I think we'll get enough chances through the day. In the three games between the two countries, Australia have always bowled first and have never batted for more than 26 overs in successfully chasing small totals. The Australians play Bangladesh in the second match here on Sunday and in Darwin on August 6.
