100 more BRTC buses to be launched in phases

One hundred more BRTC buses on long and short routes will be launched in phases from this month.The state-run Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) has already procured the buses from Pragati Industries Ltd. The first inter-district BRTC bus on Chandpur-Khagrachhari route would be launched on August 10, said BRTC chairman Advocate Taimur Alam Khondaker. He said preparation has been completed to inaugurate the bus service from Chandpur and Khagrachhari district on that day and Comilla-Sunamganj bus service on August 11. BRTC took the initiative in line with the government policy to make public transport cheaper throughout the country, Taimur told UNB. BRTC, he added, is trying to resume the inter-district bus services, which were earlier suspended in phases. The state-run transport operator has to suspend many inter-district bus services amidst protest by local bus owners and their employees. The chairman said the total number of BRTC buses would reach 1,000 within this year.
