Hotels raided to nab 'hiding' criminals, none arrested

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted raids at 18 hotels at Motijheel on Thursday night, picked up and interrogated some people but released them later.

The raids followed reports that many notorious criminals and outlaws have fled the south-western region and are hiding in the city as the joint forces' drive to nab them continues.

DMP Commissioner Ashraful Huda said, "We are keeping a close watch on city slums, hotels, resthouses and bus terminals since the joint drive began on July 20 in 10 districts of Khulna Division. We want to ensure that no criminal from the region can take shelter in the city."

He admitted that no such criminal could be arrested so far but said raids will continue as long as necessary.

He urged the city dwellers to inform police immediately if a criminal is spotted.

The joint drive involves police, paramilitary BDR, ansars, village defence party and coast guard.
