2 SIs shifted, 6 cops closed
5 more dacoits held in Bhandaria robbery


Two sub-inspectors (SI) were transferred, six police constables closed and five more alleged dacoits arrested yesterday in connection with the Bhandaria Bandar Bazar robbery.

SI Rezaul and SI Surendra of the Bhandaria Police Station were transferred due to failure in curbing crime in their specific area, police sources said.

Constables Abdul Halim, Abdus Salam, Humayun Kabir, Afzal Hossain, Ahmed Ali and Abul Bashar were closed for their negligence of duty.

Five alleged dacoits, Golam Kibria Mantu of Morelganj, Zakir Hossain of Hatia, Mizanur Rahman of Bhandaria and Lal Mia of Pathoghata were arrested Friday from different parts of Bhandaria upazila.

Badal Sharif, arrested earlier, confessed his brother Kazal Sharif's gang and other extremist groups joined forces in the looting.

Police also recovered some looted ornaments from the arrestees.

Thirteen alleged robbers have been arrested and departmental actions taken against 10 police personnel so far.

Jungle bandits allegedly looted Tk 1.5 crore from 11 shops of Bandar Bazar, headquarters of Bhandaria upazila, in the early hours last Tuesday.
