Barrister Rokan warns ministers against anarchy in courts
UNB, Dhaka
Barrister Rokanuddin Mahmud, president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, yesterday accused a few ministers of provocation to create a situation in the courts. "The ministers along with some of their followers are trying to create anarchy in the courts... But none can resist the lawyers from their programmes on August 6," Barrister Mahmud told a press conference in Dhaka. "We are not boycotting the courts, rather we are going to abstain from attending the courts on August 6 to press home our demands," he said, adding "If any unwanted situation arises in the court premises on August 6, those ministers would be held responsible." The Bar president also refuted the allegation by some ministers and a section of lawyers that Bangladesh Bar Council had called a court boycott programme. "It is not a boycott... We will just refrain from attending courts on the day to press home our demands." Ainjibi Oikya Parishad -- a forum of lawyers backed by the ruling four-party alliance at a meeting on Saturday called for "boycotting" the August 6 programme of lawyers to abstain from courts.
