Shazneen case
IO cross-examined for four hours


The 23rd prosecution witness, Mojibur Rahman, additional superintendent of police, CID, and investigation officer (IO) of the Shazneen case, was cross-examined for about four hours yesterday.

Lawyers of the five accused Hasan, Shaniram, Badal, Minu and Parvin cross-examined the IO.

The cross-examination took place in the Second Special Tribunal for Prevention of Women and Children Repression, Dhaka.

Judge Kazi Rahmat Ullah adjourned the hearing.

Earlier, the lawyer of the principal accused, Shahidul Islam alias Shahid, had completed cross-examination.

During the cross-examination yesterday, Mojibur Rahman was asked some 'denial' questions from statements of five prosecution witnesses.

Shazneen Tasnim Rahman, 15, the youngest daughter of Latifur Rahman, chairman of Transcom Ltd., was raped and murdered at their Gulshan residence on April 23, 1998.

Special public prosecutors ABM Sharfuddin Khan Mukul and Arfan Uddin Khan appeared for the state while Advocate Mosharraf Hossain Kajol, Advocate MA Kamrul Hasan Khan Aslam and Advocate Mizanur Rahman defended the accused.
