Bhandaria robbery
8 policemen transferred, three more 'robbers' held

One sub-inspector (SI), two assistant sub-inspectors (ASI) and five constables were transferred and three more alleged dacoits arrested yesterday in connection with the Bhandaria Bandar Bazar robbery.

SI Rafiqul Islam and ASIs Bazlur Rahman and Nizamul Huq were transferred to Pirojpur District Police Line from the Bhandaria Police Station.

Five constables of the same police station were also transferred on charge of negligence of duty.

Eighteen policemen have so far faced departmental actions in connection with the July 29 looting.

Bhandaria police yesterday detained Monir and Mannan Sikder from Vitabaria and Selim Howlader from Junia village.

Police also recovered 13 ounces of the looted gold jewellery from Shahidul Islam's house at Togra in Zianagar.

Golam Kibria Mintu of Morelganj, an arrestee, revealed the Matin Dakat of Barguna and Asaduzzaman Litu, a top terror of Khulna, are their godfathers.

They have members from Chittagong and Comilla, and their sophisticated arms and ammunition are smuggled in from India through Chittagong and Satkhira borders, Mintu added.

The same gang was also involved in the looting in Mathbaria Mirukhali Bazaar and the Pathorghata Kakchira Police Camp, he further said.

The number of arrestees in this connection now stands 16, with five of them remanded.
