UNB reporter rescued after abduction

A gang of criminals, angered by press reports on their activities, kidnapped the Keraniganj correspondent of UNB and the Ajker Kagoj, HM Amin, from Dakpara Link Road yesterday morning.

Local people rescued Amin from an abandoned house in Chunkutia Bangalbari area of Keraniganj as the armed kidnappers fled away in a microbus firing gunshots at the rescuers.

Amin lodged a case with Keraniganj Police Station alleging that local criminals abducted him as he exposed their criminal activities, including those of land grabbing and extortion.

Police could not arrest any of the accused named in the FIR till yesterday evening.

Dhaka District Journalists Union President Zahidur Rahman, Keraniganj Press Club President Haji Mohammad Salahuddin and General Secretary Delwar Hossain, Keraniganj Journalists Welfare Association president and local political leaders have condemned the incident and demanded immediate arrest of those involved.
