One gets life for murder in Naogaon


A court here on Thursday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing a rickshaw-van workers union leader Azhar Ali Sarder in 1997.

Additional District and Sessions Judge-2 SM Solaiman also fined the convict, Zillur Rahman, Tk 10,000, in default he is to suffer one more year in jail.

The judge acquitted four others as charges brought against them were not proved.

According to the prosecution, Azhar Ali, 40, of Rampur village under Manda upazila of the district was killed by the convict and his accomplices on June 19,1997 as they could not extort money from him.

Azhar's body was found hanging from the ceiling of a local club.

Ametun, the victim's wife, filed a murder case with Manda Police Station on June 21 the same year.

After investigation, police submitted chargesheet to the court accusing five persons.
