Art competition
Children observe Population Day
Art competition arranged by Youth and Social Development Organisation

The walls of the auditorium wore a colourful look with paintings by children hanging over them. A painting by Farahnaz depicts a scene from our Liberation War: some freedom fighters in action against the Pakistani army. In the painting the young artist has painted some martyrs as well as some collaborators too. She got the second prize in the competition. Ripon, the winner of the first prize, drew a sketch of the war that shows three freedom fighters crawling through a dam to attack the enemies. The pictures are mostly about the Liberation War and Victory Day.

The prize distribution ceremony of the children's art competition to mark the World Population Day was held recently at the Begum Sufia Kamal auditorium of the National Museum. Youth and Social Development Organisation also held a discussion programme on this occasion.

The programme started with rendition of some Tagore and modern songs performed by Upama, Joyita, Iva, Trishna and Farhan--all aged between 6 to 10.

In the discussion session the chief guest, Shah Mohammad Abul Hossain, State Minister for Finance and Planning said, 'We must channelise our large population into a resource to carry forwards our pride and also for the development of our country.'

Later the chief guest gave away the prizes to the winners of the art competition. There were a number of physically and mentally challenged children among the competitors, who also won prizes. The winners were Rafi, Shwrna, Asif, Zahid, Hawa, Shuchi, Ronie, Mouri, Shubha, Shahana, Shumon, Shaymol, Shafiqul and Moslem. The other winners were Adnan, Shahriar, Pronab, Mim, Bishal, Sanny and Humaira.
