HC asks BTRC to dispose of Jamuna TV application

The High Court (HC) yesterday directed the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to dispose of an application of the Jamuna Television Ltd for allocation of frequency within 30 days.

While handing the order, a Division bench of Justices Abu Nayeem Mominur Rahman and Md Abdul Awal also made the earlier issued rule absolute.

Jamuna Television on February 13 last year submitted an application to the BRTC, seeking frequency allocation and permission for machinery import. But it went to the HC after getting no response from the BRTC.

Another HC bench issued a rule on December 17, asking the BTRC as to why the Jamuna Television should not be allocated frequency and granted permission for importing machinery for both terrestrial and satellite transmission.

The HC had also observed in its ruling that the BTRC should dispose of the application within 6 months.

Barrister Rafique-ul Huq along with Barrister Rokanuddin Mahmud moved the application for Jamuna Television.
