Nazrul's death anniversary today

National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam's 27th death anniversary will be observed today. Nazrul was recognised as a rebel poet for his poems and songs and became a source of inspiration for the colonised people of his time. Nazrul became the idol for the poets of the later periods for his enormous contribution to the Bangla literature after Rabindranath Tagore. His poem 'Bidrohi' played a significant role in arousing patriotism and an yearning for independence among the people during the British rule. Different socio-cultural organisations have taken up programmes with a view to paying tribute to the National Poet. Bangla Academy will hold a discussion as well as recitation and musical programmes on the occasion at the ' Nazrul Manch' of the Academy today. Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will also hold a discussion and cultural programme to mark the day. Nazrul Institute has organised a weeklong programme at Kabi Bhaban in Dhanmondi. It will hold discussion and cultural programme at the Institute auditorium at 5:00pm today where State Minister for Cultural Affairs Begum Selima Rahman will be present as the chief guest. Nazrul Institute will place wreath today at the Mazar of the National Poet at 7:00am.
