3 cops suspended, 14 showcaused

Three policemen were suspended and 14 others served with showcause notices in Joypurhat yesterday for negligence duty during the August 14 gunfight between police and extremists at Uttar Moheshpur village.Officials said the three suspended policemen are those who lost their weapons to the militants of the outlawed Jama'atul Mujahidin in the pre-dawn gun battle. The 14 others including a senior police official were asked to explain in seven days why tough action would not be taken against them for failure to discharge their duties properly.
