NSU student feared drowned in Bay: Search on for body

Police and relatives yesterday were searching for the body of Shawkat, an 18-year-old BBA student of Dhaka's North South University (NSU), feared drowned in the Bay after he was swept away by receding tides while bathing on the beach here on Monday.Sources said Shawkat had got stuck into a quicksand at around 2:00pm before being pulled into the deep waters by a strong current. Rescuers from Yasir Lifeguard managed to save Shawkat's two friends, Himel, 22, and Nipun, 20, who were also bathing on the beach. The only son of Azizul Akbar, general manager (Operations) of Bangladesh Krishi Bank head office, Shawkat came to Cox's Bazar on an excursion along with several of his NSU classmates. The victim's body could not be found till 6:00pm yesterday.
